It’s Friday! Woot woot!

Today we’ll be sharing a few extraordinary images from our top picks of the week chosen from Paint+Pattern’s Inspired by Indian Design Pinterest board. Extraordinary because of their unbelievably intricate work from the bygone era – from even before the 15th century. These phenomenal buildings were built when there was no technological advancement – no laser printers, no machines and no fancy tools. Only two hands, a hammer and a chisel! Many of these Indian Jain temples are world renowned for their beautiful marble and stone carvings.

Architecturally, once you enter the main temple you will find a complex spatial layout on numerous vertical levels with each space having its own religious significance. Each of these spaces also translate specific Jain mythological and cosmological concepts or stories through their complex details and carvings. Elaborate studies have been done to understand the architectural style of Jain temples in order to understand their significance. However, here on Paint+Pattern, we are only going to revel in the glory of the stunning hand-carved marble patterns created on the various inverted ceilings and columns of these magnificent buildings.

Can you even begin to imagine how many days, months and years it would have taken the artisans to complete one such structure without access to any sophisticated tools or techniques? It is just astonishing! Several such structures can be found scattered all over India and people from around the world come here to revel in its mind blowing glory! We truly hope you enjoyed browsing today and hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead. Happy Pinning!
