The denim back is back (did it ever leave?) and it’s making waves but with DIY touches. There are so many denim jackets out there, so it’s important to make yours special. You can easily (and affordably) use paint and Royal Design Studio Stencils to create a trendy look that’s all your own. Here’s a simple DIY tutorial on how to paint designs onto your fabric for that custom denim jacket look…
- Majestic Medina Damask Stencil from Royal Design Studio
- Fretwork Border Craft Stencils Set from Royal Design Studio
- 1” and ¾” Royal Stencil Brushes
- Antique Gold Royal Stencil Creme
- Pure White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®
- Painter’s tape and water
Step 1: Plan and prep! Lay your denim jacket on a flat surface and move the stencil design around until you have an idea of what placement you would like to do. Use painter’s tape to mask off any areas on the jacket you don’t want to stencil. Secure the stencil onto the jacket with painter’s tape into the desired placement.
Step 2: Mix 1 part Chalk Paint® and 1 part water. Load a stencil brush with the mix and offload the excess onto a paper towel.
Step 3: Stencil the design with a light to medium pressure and moving the stencil brush in a circular or stippling motion.
Optional: We wanted to add more detailing to the back and front of the jacket. We used the Fretwork Border Craft Stencils Set and Antique Gold Stencil Creme (without water) for some extra flair.
