Our Stencil Star series showcases our creative customer’s use of our Royal Design Studio mylar wall stencils and Modello custom vinyl stencils on surfaces such as walls, ceilings, floors, and more. In this installment, we feature the incredible work of a professional decorative painting company, The Painted Room . Based in Ohio, they frequently design and create extraordinary rooms with our stencil patterns in many of their decorative painting projects.
The Large Feathered Damask Stencil looks positively amazing in this powder bath. It’s a pattern that can easily incorporate more than one color in the design for a look with depth.

A chic global flair is enhanced with the Eight Pointed Stars Moroccan Stencil on the walls. The color scheme both fresh and organic.
In a chat with Sheri and Heather, we tried to find out a few secrets about how they choose the perfect pattern for a space, their dream project and learn as they share some of their top stenciling tips. Let’s dig in!
How do you determine which pattern will work for your project?
We consider the design aesthetics of our client’s environment and utilize existing elements in the home to suggest 2 – 3 appropriate stencil pattern options. We then narrow it down by the stencil size and the preference of the client.
The Teardrop Trellis Bari J Stencil is a stunner on these faux linen-look walls.
A girl’s room gets a pretty makeover with fun colors paired with our Big Bloomers Stencil Set.
What is your “dream” stencil job?
We would love to stencil an elaborate, multi patterned groin ceiling and down skirting. Although we have stenciled a simple Modello pattern on one groin ceiling in Texas, we haven’t had much opportunity to do another one because Central Ohio homes do not have groin ceilings.
An allover stencil gives a custom wallpaper look and feel to almost any surface. Sheri and Heather used the Arrow Outline Stencil to enhance a room with a classic, elegant feature accent wall.
Please share your top stenciling tip(s)
We like to use multiple stencils for mid to large sized projects, as well as, powder rooms and other awkward spaces. We also like to save odd shaped spaces for last and then cut the stencil to fit into that space whenever appropriate.
We agree on having more than one stencil in hand for when stenciling larger projects as well as having a PRO sized stencil, which is a larger stencil that includes a higher amount of pattern repeats. We hope you’ve enjoyed the beautiful work of Heather Cameron and Sheri Miller of The Painted Room.
