DIY craft projects get even sweeter around Valentine’s Day when you can incorporate hearts, candy, and hand-crafted love to show others how much you care. Danielle of Finding Silver Pennies wanted to show her family how much she loves them with cute Valentine’s Day boxes that are hand stenciled stenciled and filled with sweet treats. Let’s check out how she made these sweetly stenciled Valentine’s Day candy boxes with Royal Design Studio stencils:
Supplies:
- Craft Boxes from Michaels
- Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan: Primer Red, Pure White, Antoinette, Duck Egg Blue, Paris Gray
- Royal Design Studio Stencils: Polka Heart Furniture Stencil, Primitivo Lace Craft Stencil, Parlor Lace Wall Stencil, Fleur de Lace Furniture Stencil
- Royal Stencil Brushes
- Antique Gold Royal Stencil Creme
- Fine Grit Sandpaper (400 grit)
- Paper towels
- Annie Sloan Clear Wax
- Waxing Brush
- Liners for chocolates from Michaels
- Crinkle Cut Tissue from Dollar Tree
Step 1: Paint the interior and exterior of the craft boxes. Danielle used Primer Red Chalk Paint® to give her boxes a pop of color whenever they were opened. For the contrasting exterior, she used Duck Egg Blue, Antoinette, Pure White, and Paris Gray Chalk Paint®. Allow to dry.
Step 2: It’s time to stencil! Place a stencil on a box lid and hold it in place with your hand. You can coordinate your boxes with the same stencil, or you can mix and match different patterns like Danielle did to add more visual interest. Danielle loves that she was able to reuse a few Royal Design Studio stencils that she’s used on previous DIY projects. What a money saver!
Step 3: Allow the stenciled portions to dry then lightly sand the boxes with fine grit sandpaper. This will remove any raised pattern from stenciling and make the lids feel smooth to the touch.
Step 4: Seal your stenciled boxes with Annie Sloan Clear Wax so that the paint does not get on any food that may go inside. Allow to dry.
Step 5: Fill your Valentine’s Day boxes with sweet treats (yum!), hand them out, and spread the Stencil Love!
