Every spring for a few weeks, cherry trees grace the world with their beautiful blooms. Sakura blossoms symbolize mortality, as they’re as quick to fade as they are to bloom. You can let the allure of cherry blossoms linger all year long by stenciling this iconic motif on walls and furniture. The Cherry Blossoms Stencil from Royal Design Studio is a “free form” stencil that includes 5 unique and separate branch and flower elements that allow you to create a unique, flowing design across your surface.
Girl in the Garage did just that on two separate custom furniture pieces, giving each a unique look. Since this stencil set includes different versions of the cherry blossom branches to free form a custom design, she was able to create a different look on each piece. See how she did it and be sure to scroll on for more blossoming ideas!
The charcoal vanity was painted with Paris Grey Chalk Paint® and stenciled with Old White Chalk Paint®. This color combination is soft and romantic while the free form stencil was able to give fluidity to the piece. She even free handed some branches onto the drawer handles! See her blog post for her full process.
The taupe color on the second dresser was painted with Old Ochre Chalk Paint®. She used two colors to paint the cherry blossom stencil this time so that the design would pop even more. To make it more cohesive, she freehanded more branches to connect every stenciled cherry blossom. See her blog post for more.
Both painted furniture pieces look beautiful, don’t they? Here’s some more blooming possibilities using this stencil design…
The versatile stencil design was used as individual motifs in this laundry room, but it could easily be stenciled to create larger branched areas.

This black and white furniture set takes on a more traditional and masculine feel, even with the Cherry Blossom Stencil topping each piece. The painted flowers are the perfect pop of pattern that can be used minimally if desired because of its freeform design.
